AIREDALE TERRIER: HISTORY

Airedale Terrier is known as the king of terriers. Comes from the old English Terrier or black and yellow brown terrier as the primary species. Resulting in the mid-nineteenth century in the valley of the river Aire in Yorkshire. Interbred them to improve hunting skills in the water. First it was known as the Waterside Terrier.

As a Airedale Terrier was recognized in 1878. In the early 20th century, a recognized champion of the breed Master Briar got descendants, who transferred glory to America. Males size is in the range from 22 to 24 inches, while the size of the females is in the range from 22 to 23 inches.

The male weight ranges from 50 lbs to 64 lbs and the weight of the females varies from 39 lbs to 44 lbs.

HEAD: proportional, long, flat.

EYES: dark colors, small, terrier expression, intelligent.

EARS: V shape, small, suit to face.

TEETH: strong teeth and jaws, scissor bite, teeth are set square to the jaws.

NECK: muscular, medium length and of medium intensity.

FRONT LEGS: flat, sloping, well placed.

REAR LEGS: long and strong thighs, muscular, joints parallel.

BODY: short back, ribs well sprung, chest deep, not broad.

CLUTCHES: small, round, compact, with strong pads.

FUR: hard, dense, elastic, smooth and flat lying. The top coat is hard, while the bottom coat is softer.

COLOR: Saddle, neck and upper side of tail are black or grizzle, all other parts are in color of flame. Ears are usually darker in color.

AIREDALE TERRIER: CHARACTER AND BEHAVIOUR

Airedale Terrier is a very active dog. The first two years of life is extremely active and then it gradually calms down. Bold, fast, friendly and full of confidence. It is always cautious, but not nervous or aggressive. Always matches well with children and other animals.
